In early 2000, Axel Schnura and the AX-Lightness team decided to design and produce a new groundbreaking product line, 'Composite bicycle saddles'.
Working with the worlds leading suppliers of composite materials and leading-edge constructors within the Formula One community, the design parameters were clear... All-carbon structures, using the latest composite technologies and drastic weight reduction!

After 10 months of research into new materials and construction methods, many long days, and over 120 prototype saddles ridden tens-of-thousands of abusive test miles by AX-Lightness and pro team riders, the new bicycle saddles were ready... The results would speak for themselves, AX-Lightness saddles were the lightest & most comfortable ever produced...

The AX-Lightness designs and manufacturing methods are widely copied but never matched... Their new product line is the lightest ever, with the most comfortable series of bicycle saddles ever produced, and durability that surpasses any other seat on the market... Four years of evolution and feedback from leading Tour De France riders, has honed each model into its purest form.

Functional carbon-fibre:
Every AX-Lightness saddle is fabricated completely by hand, in a painstaking three-hour process. Unlike other products, their saddles are constructed entirely of carbon-fibre, including the saddle rails. Additionally, the saddle rails are not bolted or screwed into the platform, but are moulded into the seat while the epoxy platform is still curing. This process creates a monocoque, a fully integrated structure unmatched for its strength. Most importantly, this system provides an architecture that absorbs twice the vibrations of any fixed frame. AX-Lightness saddles are the only products on earth manufactured using this superior method.

Pushing the composite envelope:
AX-lightness has continued to design and develop a range of perhaps the most technically advanced, and beautifully constructed composite bicycle components ever seen... 2006 sees the introduction of their new 'Layback' carbon seatpost weighing as little as 86grams! As well as the new hollow monocoque and 'Stain-Orientated' carbon brake callipers... weighing less than half the weight of their competitors yet massively powerful.
